SHNU, April 7：At the invitation of our university, Prof. Chen Jianping, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Department of Astronomy of Beijing University, delivered an academic lecture entitled Seeking the Second Earth which dealt with such questions as “Is the earth unique in existence?” “Are there really extraterrestrial beings?” and “How can people seek the ‘companion’ of earth in the cosmos?” Chen was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991. With many academic and executive titles, Chen has contributed a lot to the development of astronomical research in China. This time he was engaged as an honorary professor of our university.
