On April 13th, SHNU President Yuan Wen met Cai Ruolian, Director of Education Bureau (EB) , Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (SAR). The meeting was also received by SHNU Vice President Jiang Mingjun, SHNU UNESCO Teacher Education Center Zhang Minxuan, and other representatives from SHNU Division of HK, Macau, and Taiwan Affairs, and SHNU Preschool Education College.
SHNU President Yuan briefed on the education concepts and teacher education characteristics of Shanghai Normal University. Meanwhile, she mentioned that SHNU has been dedicated to the balanced development of suburban and countryside education of Shanghai, as well as that of education in China’s underdeveloped mid and western regions. SHNU has also established sound relations with education institutes in HK. Since 1980s, SHNU has been a member of Shanghai Hong Kong University Alliance, which further strengths the development of cooperative platforms and mechanisms with HK government. Particularly, cooperation opportunities would be tapped in terms of newly-employed teachers training programs for middle schools and primary schools in HK. It is expected that a wider, more multilateral and lasting cooperative mechanism would be decided to open a new chapter in HK Shanghai education cooperation.
It is agreed on both sides that an international pattern of training programs would be established to serve the needs of a win-win situation in terms of teacher education cooperation and advanced research base construction.
