On March 31st, Cai Ying, Associate professor from SHNU College of Music who once studied abroad in America, and also a Chinese zither player, performed at the 38th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival at Jaguar Shanghai Symphony Hall. Cai featured on her unique performances of fusing piano, a classic western music instrument, and Gu Zheng (a traditional Chinese zither), an ancient eastern music instrument and staged extraordinary music shows for the audiences.
Cai played both Chinese folk songs which described Chinese scholars’ passion for beautiful landscapes and their hardworking scenes. She also cooperated with Gong Tianpeng, a pioneering Chinese pianist, and pushed the music show to a climax.
As a doctoral degree winner in the USA, Cai started playing Chinese zither since she was four and piano since she was five. As a double music instrument performer, Cai has been active on the international stage to promote Chinese traditional folk music culture. She was once acclaimed by New York media as Gifts from the East and Dazzling Carnegie.
