“Chinese Spring Festival Culture” Lecture Tour Held by SHNU Confucius Institute of University of Mis

   As Chinese spring festival approaches, SHNU Confucius Institute of University of Missouri hold a lecture tour in local primary and middle schools which is warmly welcomed and highly praised by students, teachers and leaders.

   Starting in January, the first lecture was given by Sun Qin, a teacher from Confucius Institute. She introduced the history and techniques of a Chinese traditional game “Chinese Diabolo”, which is popular at every “Chinese Culture Night”. This lecture gave American students a chance of playing Diabolo.

   Sheng Diyun gave a lecture on customs of Chinese Spring Festival. She began with the comparison and contrast between American and Chinese festivals, and introduced the origin of Chinese Lunar New Year. This short lecture enabled American students to get more familiar with Chinese culture and aroused their interest in this culture.

   Chen Shiting played Chinese lute during the lecture and performed the charm of Chinese national musical instruments. She played a traditional Chinese tune “Bu Bu Gao” and a famous song “Twinkling Stars”.

   The Chinese Spring Festival Culture lecture tour is comprised of 12 lectures with rich contents including Tai Ji, Paper-cut , Calligraphy and Chinese Monochromes, presenting customs and characteristics of Chinese Spring Festival in different ways and providing further development in the teaching of Chinese language.

   Confucius Institute of University of Missouri was established in April 2011 with cooperation with SHNU.(Translated by Shao Suya)
