The Country Road, Penghu Bay of Grandmother’s, We have a common name China, and Walk on the Fields Barefooted are all familiar songs that could ring a bell for most of us, with fond memories emanating from old years. Ye Jiaxiu, the author of these popular songs and a folk song singer from Taiwan, held a speaking concert on December 19th at the invitation of our university.
As one of the founders of Taiwan campus songs, Ye’s creative works are characteristic of the traditional Chinese culture. The College of Music of SHNU, on the other hand, has long been famous for campus songs composition and singing performance. Ye exchanged views with teachers and students on site. Zhou Honggang, Party Secretary of our university, said in his speech that this concert served as one of the major events in SHNU campus cultural activities which endeavor to promote the cultural exchanges between people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Leaders from the Shanghai Municipal Office of Taiwan Affairs, HK, Macao and Taiwan Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and President of Middle Taiwan Education University attended the concert as guests.  |
