The November 19 edition of Xin Min Evening News takes the title of Shanghai Normal University Encourages Students to Teach in Rural Areas and reported on the employment information meeting held in our university. The passage is outlined as follows:
Award for graduates teaching in suburbs! Recently, SHNU declared that those taking a niche in the countryside can be amply rewarded, and a tour around the suburban counties of potential jobs is on the way. Jiang Weiyi, Vice President and Vice Party Secretary of SHNU said that it was the very first time for SHNU to make a sum of RMB600, 000 as the funds to encourage more students to work in the suburbs. Last year witnessed a surge of over 300 students teaching in suburban areas, and this year the number increased to over 400, with most of them Shanghai locals. Next year, SHNU would proceed with the annual fund of around RMB600, 000 for these graduates, and would issue a one-off subsidy, provided that they could have a one-year-teaching-experience certificate approved by the school that they taught in. Currently, teachers of Chinese language, mathematics and English language are desperately in need; Next year, SHNU shall arrange 1340 teacher-oriented graduates to take a tour around the possible Shanghai suburban job areas as Nanhui, Qingpu, Jinshan and Fengxian etc. Many students, after returning from their suburban tour last year, dramatically changed their impressions of out-of-the-way schools and expressed their wishes to teach there. |
