2007 International Summit Symposium of Confucianism Held in Our University

SHNU: 2007 International Summit Symposium of Confucianism, co-hosted by International Confucian Association (ICA) and our university, was held in Wenyuanlou Building on November 9. Those who were present at the symposium included Mr. Ye Xuanping, the former vice president of CPPCC and chairman of ICA; Mr. Wang Ronghua, vice president of Shanghai Committee of CPPCC and chairman of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, President Li Jin and other leaders of our university.
    Five professors from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Pure Land College of Australia, etc. delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Liu Zhongde, the former minister of Ministry of Culture and vice chairman of ICA.
    50 experts and scholars from over 10 academic organizations and institutions of higher learning in Canada, Australia, Japan, Switzerland and China were invited to take part in the symposium. During the two-day symposium, experts aired views on such topics as “The Spirit of Chinese Nation”, “Classical Texts and Thoughts of the Confucian School”, “Confucian Ethics and Religious Issues”, “Confucian Society and Political Thoughts”, etc. Altogether 30 academic papers were submitted to the symposium.
