SHNU: Qian Jing, the chief of Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Pudong Social Development Bureau, at the invitation of our university, delivered a lecture on Fengxian Campus Oct. 29 entitled “How a translator deals with interaction and conflicts in linguistic and cultural communication”.
Qian analyzed the job prospects for foreign language majors and listed several essential makings for translators. In his opinion, a devoted translator should have the ability to acquire, utilize and analyze information. Besides, it is necessary for a translator or interpreter to know something about politics, culture and etiquette. Qian hoped our students would be able to know themselves well, make appropriate choices when faced with job opportunities and achieve great success with their own professional skills.
