Ding Bangxin, a professor of Chinese linguistics from University of California at Berkeley (UCB) paid an academic visit to SHNU on the invitation of SHNU linguistic research institute and Shanghai E-research center. On October 26 a ceremony was held where Vice President Lu Jianfei conferred the Certificate for SHNU Consultant Professor to Mr. Ding.
As a chair professor of Agassiz UCB, Prof. Ding was a member of Academia Sinica of Taiwan, an honorary member of American Linguistics Association, and also a visiting professor of Beijing University, Nankai University and Zhejiang University. He towers above others in historical phonology, Chinese Dialects and Comparative Studies of East-Asian Languages, playing a pivotal role in the field of linguistics in the world.
Various scholars from renowned universities across China attended the conferring ceremony.
