The 10th Anniversary of Cultural Exchanges between SHNU Women Professors Sorority and Women from Nagasaki

        On the evening of Sept. 21, over 100 members of the Women’s Commission and Women Professors Sorority of our university gathered in Garden Hotel with a delegation of 27 people from Nagasaki, Japan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of cultural exchanges between the two sides. Also present at the ceremony are university leaders Jiang Weiyi and Lu Jianfei, leaders from concerning department of Shanghai Municipal Government Hou Guofang and Zhu Xiaojuan, and head of Nagasaki Delegation Hisae Murotsuka.
        Mrs Jiang extended hospitality to the Japanese visitors on behalf of SHNU in her welcome speech. She said that ten years of cultural exchanges have contributed a lot to promoting the everlasting friendship between Chinese and Japanese peoples, and she also hoped that there would be more visits and exchanges in various fields between the two countries.
       At the ceremony Murotsuka was awarded a trophy and a medal of Envoy of Sino-Japanese Friendship for taking an active part in facilitating cultural exchanges by elaborate organization and zealous participation. Moreover, Murotsuka and Emiko Aikawa celebrated their 80th birthday together among happy greetings from all the people present, an unforgettable occasion for the two old ladies.
      Women staff of SHNU, decked in gorgeous costumes, staged the dances of Spicy Girls, What a Beautiful Jasmine, and Spring Rhythms on Taihu Lake and solo singing etc; whereas Nagasaki women, dressed up in kimono, performed dances, musical instrument playing, and poem reciting tinged with Japanese national characteristics.

      The visit of the Japanese delegation lasted for 4 days. On Sept. 22, they went to visit Nanjin, an ancient city of China. On the evening of Sept. 23, a special farewell banquet was held, on which Japanese visitors cooked Japanese cuisines on the spot, and both hosts and guests exchanged food cultures of the two countries, displaying the glamour of their respective foods. Hugging, shaking hands, taking pictures and exchanging gifts produced a moving scene which demonstrated deep emotions of the people on the two sides who simply couldn’t bear to leave each other.
