Hayakawa Misao, Assistant to the President of Nagoya University and professor of Scientific Research Development Department of its graduate school, was invited to our university and spoke at an academic seminar in the Jiaoyuan Building on Xuhui Campus on the afternoon of Sept 11. The seminar was hosted by Professor Chen Yongming, Vice Dean of Education College. Associate Professor Fang Mingsheng, Vice Dean of the Education Department of the same college, served as the interpreter.

Hayakawa probed into and made an in-depth analysis of a series of issues concerning the current situations of Japanese education and the direction of international education. By making comparisons in different aspects, he illustrated the popular modes of education in Japanese and their impacts. Meanwhile, he noted that Japan should learn something from China in its educational reform. Regarding the reform of higher education, Prof. Hayakawa said that given the increasingly fierce global competition, Japanese educational reform would take the form of the non-government enterprise and education should develop with the times. He also pointed out that as one of the key universities in Japan; Nagoya University would take the strategy of international development and introduce the competition mechanism into the reform.

The seminar has got the students acquainted with current education situations. 8 students from Nagoya University compared notes with our students to catch on more about each other’s study and life in respective countries.
