SHNU：The semi-finals of the 2008 “CCTV Cup” English Speaking Contest was held in East China University of Political Science and Law on October 18. Li Jia, a student from the Foreign Languages College of SHNU, won the second prize. Contestants from over 20 universities took part in the contest. The CCTV Cup English Speaking Contest is co-sponsored by CCTV International and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. The annual competition, held successfully since 2000, aims at arousing public interest in English learning, while showcasing the language ability and bright personalities of a group of young hopefuls. The contestants are university students from across China, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. (Edited by Jessica)
