SHNU: From May 9 to 19, an expert panel, organized by Shanghai Education Commission, inspected the 14 new disciplines of SHNU set up in 2004 and 2005. The panel consisted of 70 odd experts and senior professors from both inside and outside the university. SHNU vice president Xiang Jiaxiang and head of the Academic Affairs Office were present. Experts checked the new disciplines from 5 aspects: guiding principles, teaching staff, basic teaching conditions, teaching management and teaching effects. While giving a positive comment on the features and strengths of these new disciplines, they honestly pointed out the weaknesses in the hope that these newly established disciplines could be further improved.
