SHNU: The 4th Representative Assembly of Members of Shanghai Society of Rare Earths (SSRE) was held in our university on April 9. Leaders from Shanghai Rare Earth Exploration and Application Office and Shanghai Association of Science and Technology, and members of SSRE attended the conference. SHNU vice president Li Hexing presided over the conference. The conference generated new leaders of SSRE and Li Hexing was elected as the director general of the 4th Representative Assembly of Members of SSRE. Wang Zhenhua, director general of the 3rd assembly, made a work report summarizing the activities and achievements of SSRE during the past 3 years. China is a country with abundant rare earth resources, and it has been pursuing the national policy in exploring and exploiting the resources. Our university started researches into this field as early as 1980s and has undertaken many relevant programs at the state level or ministerial level. In 2006, our university started the preparatory work for building a key laboratory of rare earth material of Shanghai. Wenhui Daily reported this piece of news, pointing out that it was urgent to make use of advanced science and technology in improving rare earth explorations. (Trans. by Jessica) |
