SHNU president Li Jin stated firmly, “Students’ interests should be placed at first priority, and price index of students’ canteen shall be kept at an acceptably stabilized standard, so that students can rest assured to lead an easy academic life on campus.” Now when you drop in on any school canteen, you can spot out 2 to 3 low-priced dish choices varying from 6 Jiao (equal to US$0.08) to 1 Yuan (equal to US$0.13) with free soup provided. There are price tags stuck upright beside the dish tray, and the price information can also be found online at the service platform web page of SHNU. Students’ cheek brim with smiles of satisfaction, showing their thanks to the superior service quality of the canteen.
Multifold ways have been practised to curb the price hiking trend ever since the relatively drastic surge of CPI (consumer price index) last year: broadening the purchasing channels, reducing the intermediate transactions so as to lower the cost, improving the energy consumption efficiency, installing gas meters, controlling the number of dining people from outside campus, who otherwise shall be charged with extra fees, to name just a few. On March 4th, Wang Lianhua, vice president of SHNU, convened a working meeting in which he asked the relevant departments to take all-round measures to assure students of stable price in school canteens without lowering quality, quantity, variety of foods, together with subsidy offered, to win students’ smiles. An immediate amount of 1 million Yuan (RMB) subsidy has been earmarked for the canteen with other financing supports at the heel. (By Rebecca) |
