Jiefang Daily: More Pocket Skills for University Students

04 Mar 2008

The February 28th issue of Jiefang Daily reports on the Sunshine Program which aims at pre-career training program cosponsored by Shanghai Normal University and MacKay Management & consulting Co. Ltd. It is summarized as the following:
Concerning the problem of low hit rate for university undergraduates when hunting for a job, this opening ceremony of career orientation program tacked all these vexations of these would-be employers with specific prescriptions by equipping them with more pocket skills to stand out from their competitors in the battle of landing a job.
More exactly, pocket skills refer to those that are applicable in any trade and any work, for instance, the ability to summarize an article, pointing out its defects and putting forward suggestions for improvement. The ability to communicate with others when both sides have confronting ideas is another example. All these skills weigh more when human resource managers are seeking the most suitable candidates.
In this program, 20 outstanding junior students of SHNU were selected and funded for their career training, and professional CEOs would be invited to lecture and tutor them for more feasible means of acquiring pocket skills.
