The Honorary Title of “Martyr” Conferred Upon Prof. He Baogen Posthumously

SHNU, Jan. 14: A Conference was held to confer the honorary title of “Martyr” upon Prof. He Baogen who sacrificed his life to save his student last August. The whole university were motivated to follow his example as a model teacher to build a harmonious campus. 9 SHNU leaders, leaders from Shanghai Education Commission, and leaders of Zhi Gong Party took part in the conference. Also present were Hebaogen’s relatives and friends, representatives of teachers and students of SHNU and quite a number of Shanghai residents who heard about the event. Huang Gang, the vice Party secretary of our university, presided over the conference.

    The conference witnessed an agenda full of activities: an official from the Bureau of Civil Affairs in Minhang District announced the decision of Shanghai municipal government to confer the honorary title of martyr upon He Baogen; university vice president Lu Jianfei gave the diploma of martyr to He’s relatives; an announcement from the central committee of Zhi Gong Party about learning from Comrade He Baogen was read aloud, and He was also named an excellent member of Zhi Gong Party; representatives of residents from the neighborhood areas presented to He’s wife a booklet which collected over 120 pieces of news from 36 newspapers about He’s heroic deeds; representatives of teachers and students spoke to tell what He Baogen was like in their eyes; attendants of the conference watched a short film in honor of He Baogen.

    The Party committee of SHNU called on all the faculties and staff members as well as students of the university to learn from He Baogen his noble spirit in various forms. Besides, a bronze statue of He would be set up in memory of the hero.

    Many journalists came to the conference and famous newspapers such as Guang Ming Daily , Jie Fang Daily and Wen Hui Daily reported this event.
