On January 3rd, Mr. Kenneth Jarrett and Mr. Thomas Cooney, the General Consul and the Cultural Consul of American Embassy in Shanghai paid a visit to SHNU. They were received by Li Jin, president of SHNU who briefed on the development of international exchanges of SHNU in recent years, and expressed his wishes for promoting cooperation and exchanges in terms of education, arts and culture with American universities and institutions. Mr. Jarrett nodded his consent before he was given the souvenirs for Master Forum.
Mr. Jarrett delivered a lecture on 2008 Presidential Election in US to some students from the College of Law and Politics and the College of Foreign Languages. This was the first lecture made on the 2008 Xuesihu Lake Forum of Overseas Masters. Jarrett detailed on various topics such as the stages of election, the number of voters, bipartisan system, candidates determination, fund raising, and the role internet plays in the election, as well as its influence on Sino-American relations. His occasional witticism and punch lines took almost all the students present by storm. |
