SHNU: The newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, who was nominated by U.S. President Barak Obama, has once paid a friendly visit to SHNU on Oct. 20, 2006 when he was the then Governor of Utah State. In his lecture, Mr. Huntsman called on China and U.S. to join hands in environmental protection, addressing global warming and promoting peace and development of both sides of the Pacific Ocean. His wonderful remarks won big applauses from the students. Ever since 2006, SHNU has established cooperative relationship with universities in Utah. With the support and promotion of Governor Huntsman, SHNU-Utah cooperation covers many areas such as teaching, academic research and talent cultivation. After Jon Huntsman was nominated as the U.S. ambassador to China, mainstream media including CCTV, People’s Net, Xinhua News Agency, etc. have mentioned his visit to SHNU in their reports. Global Times even predicted that he would be the next U.S. President. As the only governor who can speak Chinese, Huntsman has a Chinese name--Hong Bopei. He and his wife have 5 children. He also adopted from Yangzhou a beautiful Chinese girl named Yang Leyi, who is now 9 years old. (Edited by Jessica) |
