Sino-Indian Joint Performance Unveils the Opening of the 2009 SHNU International Art Festival

    SHNU: The 3rd SHNU International Art Festival, themed “Integration of Multi-culture and Exhibition of
Distinctive art”, opened on April 21.

    Before the opening ceremony, a press conference was held, in which SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei
introduced the 2009 SHNU International Art Festival to the journalists from local media and answered  questions.
 
    Following the press conference was a brief meeting between SHNU authorities and guests from the
Consulate General of India. Both sides expressed hope of further cooperation and exchange in such
areas as software training and teacher education. 

    Attendants of the opening ceremony included Riva Ganguly Das, Consul General of Consulate General
of India in Shanghai, officials from Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries
and Shanghai Education Association for international exchange, and SHNU authorities.

    SHNU President Li Jin delivered a welcome speech and Party Secretary Zhou Honggang declared the
opening of the festival. Consul Ms. Riva Ganguly Das was invited to give a speech, in which she
expressed gratitude to SHNU and wished the art festival a resounding success. SHNU Vice President Lu
Jianfei presided over the ceremony.

    The performance was jointly staged by Indian orchestra and dancing group and SHNU Dancing Group.
The programs by Indian performers were folk orchestral music, folk song singing, Bhangar (the most
popular and thrilling folk dance of Punjab, mostly linked with harvesting and danced on moonlit lights);
while SHNU Dancing Group put on two dances: Beautiful Spring Scenery and Fire Festival. Thunderous
applauses were given from time to time by the audience, who feasted their eyes on the wonderful
performance with exotic flavor.

    Originated in 2005, the SHNU International Art Festival has now been held for the third time and it is
believed to have created great opportunities for SHNU teachers and students to enjoy and experience
foreign cultures and arts. The festival will last from April till the end of this term.
