Forum Held to Celebrate the 90th Birthday of Mr. Zhang Bin and the 60th Anniversary of His Teaching

SHNU:From Nov. 27 to 28, a forum was held to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Mr. Zhang Bin and the 60th anniversary in his teaching career as well as the first publication ceremony of Descriptive Grammar of Modern Chinese. Co-organized by the Commercial Press and SHNU, the forum was attended by 16 institutions of higher education and editorial offices of linguistics journals.

SHNU Party Secretary Zhou Honggang and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Commercial Press Zhou Hongbo spoke at the opening ceremony. Prof. Zhang Yisheng, Deputy Director of Language Research Institute of SHNU, introduced Mr. Zhang Bin’s academic ideas and learning spirit. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Qi Huyang, dean of ICCS. Many other representatives made speeches at the forum. Congratulatory letters and messages from well-known scholars both at home and abroad were read out at the ceremony.

90-year old Mr. Zhang showed his gratitude to all those present at the ceremony, and he humorously called himself as “the 90s”, which caused a very warm applause.

At the ceremony, SHNU Vice Party Secretary and Vice President Wang Lianhua announced the official foundation of the research office of descriptive grammar of modern Chinese.

8 famous experts home and abroad were invited to give academic lectures. Over 120 representatives from DPRK, Japan, Singapore and universities all over China shared their academic opinions with others in the forum.

The publication of Descriptive Grammar of Modern Chinese is sure to promote the development of descriptive grammar of modern Chinese.

This forum itself is an extremely meaningful birthday gift for Mr. Zhang.
