SHNU Authorities Observe Corban Festival with Representatives of Uygur Students

    SHNU: SHNU authorities Huang Gang and Gao Jianhua observed the Corban Festival with 52
representatives of Uygur students on Fengxian Campus on November 25. Also present were
staff from relevant departments.
 
    The following is a brief introduction of the festival:
    Corban Festival, an annually-observed major traditional Islamic festival, also known as Id
al-Gurban, falls on the 10th of the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar and is celebrated
by Chinese minority nationalities that believe in Islam, including Hui, Uygur, Kazak, Ozbek
and etc.
    The festival bears the meaning that disciples will devote everything to show their
obedience and faith to Allah.
    It is a major Islamic festival during which people kill livestock for celebrations. On the
day, they dress up, kill livestock and invite relatives and friends to their homes and have
various entertainments.
