Kumamoto University, founded in May, 1949, was established under the National School Establishment Law of Japan. It is located in Kumamoto City, in the heart of Japan’s Kyushu Island. KU has now become a comprehensive university with seven graduate schools and eight post-graduate faculties. Japanese famous writer Soseki Natsume took up his post as a lecturer in KU; two Japanese Prime Ministers graduated from this university. KU has an edge in medicine; its School of Medicine is the first Japanese hospital which succeeded in human liver transplantation operation. KU pays great attention to internationalized education and has established international exchange and cooperation relationship with 38 universities in China. Since KU establishment of interscholastic relationship with SHNU in April, 2008, the two universities have conducted short-term or long-term exchange programs. |
