SHNU President Attends the CI Conference and the Joint Conference of CIs in Africa

SHNU: The sixth Confucius Institute Conference (CIC) was held at Beijing’s China National Convention Center from December 12 to 14. SHNU President Zhang Minxuan and Chinese directors of CIs in the University of Botswana, Fukuyama University and University of Missouri were present at the conference.

Li Changchun, Member of Standing Committee of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and awarded prizes to the advanced individuals and outstanding contributors to the work of Confucius Institutes.

Themed “the future 10 years of CI”, the conference lasted two days and more than 2,000 presidents and representatives from 105 countries were present. Okubo Isao, the foreign director of CI in Fukuyama University, was invited to give a speech on Chinese Exam and Scholarship.

The Joint Conference of  CIs in Africa was held on November 12. President Zhang Minxuan and Rasebotsa, foreign director of CI in UB, gave speeches and exchanged experience of running schools.

On December 14, the Vice Minister of Education Hao Ping made concluding remarks at the conference, in which he affirmed Okubo Isao’s opinion on seizing the opportunity to expand the scale of CI. He also praised UB’s work in developing teaching materials geared to local needs as well as its plan for the next five years.
