Senior Professor from New York University Lectures in SHNU

24 Nov 2011

SHNU: On November 16, John Lawrence Aber, a senior professor from New York University (NYU), was invited to give a lecture entitled “Using Place-Randomized Experiments to Test Theories in Education and Human Development” on Xuesihu Lake Overseas Master’s Forum of SHNU.

From the perspective of ecological systems theory, Prof. Aber talked briefly about how a person's family environment, community environment and social policies were closely related to his lifelong development. He then explained the famous “Heuristic Model” and the influence of family’s financial situation on children's development at the micro level. All the teachers and students present were deeply impressed by Prof. Aber’s erudition, kindness and humility.

Professor Aber is a world-renown expert on children’s development and social policies. He is mainly engaged in studies related to the influence of poverty and violence upon the emotional, behavioral, cognitive and academic development of children and adolescents.
