SHNU Student Awarded First Prize in the 4th “Casio Cup” Japanese Speech & Debate Competition

SHNU: On the afternoon of September 17, the 4th “Casio Cup” Japanese Speech & Debate Competition for Chinese undergraduates and postgraduates was held in Shanghai International Studies University. 24 contestants from 23 universities in China ran in the final, in which Yang Yiyang, a postgraduate from the Foreign Languages College of SHNU, won the 1st prize.

As the highest-level event in Japanese education in China, the competition was jointly organized by the Japanese Subcommittee of Foreign Language Professional Education Committee of Ministry of Education, China Japanese Education Association, Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai, etc. Contestants from Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and Shanghai Normal University, etc., participated in the competition.

In the final, the contestants made speeches and had a heated debate on “What should people learn from the earthquake”. The speech entitled “The Information Selection of the Informationalized Society” by Yang Yiyang attracted much attention, and her fluent answer impressed all the people present.

For many years, the Foreign Languages College of SHNU has been dedicating itself to upgrading Japanese education, and holds Japanese Speech Competition every year to improve students’ comprehensive abilities. SHNU students majoring in Japanese have received awards many times for speech competitions in East China as well as in the whole country.
