SHNU: On September 8th, the Opening Ceremony of 2011 Fall Semester for Overseas Students was held at SHNU Conference Center. SHNU President Zhang Minxuan, leaders of ICCS, SHNU College of Finance attended the ceremony with about 900 overseas students.
Zhang extended fond wishes to the students in both English and Chinese, and hoped that they can take advantage of this opportunity to understand China, learn Chinese culture, and strengthen the ties with the Chinese people. By analyzing the French origin of the word Normal, Zhang pointed out that the best university in France is one that trains teachers. He also encouraged the students to bridge the gap of the cultural differences and attempt to benefit from learning in different environments and in various ways.
The students from the US, Thai and Ukraine shared their SHNU stories with the audience. According to statistics, 900 overseas students, the highest record up to now, are enrolled this year, including 24 doctor’s degree candidates, 63 master’s program candidates, 197 undergraduates, 545 language students and 88 in short-term programs.
