SHNU: The closing ceremony of the 4-week 2011 SGS (Shanghai Government Scholarship) Summer Class was held on Xuhui Campus of SHNU on August 26.

Together with teachers, working staff and volunteers of the class, 21overseas students from universities of Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia took part in the course-completion ceremony and got their “graduate certificates”.

Aside from advanced Chinese classes aimed to improve the students’ listening and speaking, SHNU considerately arranged a series of cultural lectures on Chinese paper-cutting, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese film appreciation and traditional Chinese martial arts (Taichi). The class also covered tours to some scenic and cultural spots of Shanghai.

The Shanghai Government Scholarship was set up by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SMEC) in 2006 and has started the summer class of overseas students since 2008. As the first university to cooperate with SMEC, SHNU has successfully run the class for three consecutive years. Since last year, SMEC expanded the summer class and changed its name into Shanghai Summer School.
