SHNU: 270 SHNU volunteers working for 14th FINA Youth World Swimming Championships returned to the university with honor on the morning of August 1, after nearly a month’s voluntary service.
The volunteers were warmly received by SHNU authorities, teachers and students who hailed “You’ve done a hard work”, and “We are proud of you volunteers”. Banners and slogans of welcome and congratulations can be seen all over the campus, and fireworks were cracked to salute the volunteers.
206 SHNU students, the largest number of volunteers among all universities in Shanghai, served as volunteers for the World Swimming Championships. They did their service at news center, executive reception department, and competitions department. Among them 15 assumed team liaison officers of Canada, Turkey, and Hungary, etc, while 49 worked at the opening and closing ceremony as flag-bearer volunteers for China, France, Germany, and so on.
The outstanding performances of SHNU volunteers were widely recognized. Authorities of Shanghai municipal government including Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, visited the volunteers and highly appreciated their good spirit and excellent service. Mainstream media like Xinhua Daily Telegraph, Jiefang Daily, and Youth Daily have made interviews and reports, while websites like www.people.com, www.sina.com.cn, etc. have reproduced these reports.
