SHNU: A few days ago, SHNU’s Party Secretary Lu Jianfei signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Carlos Villacis, the project leader of Global Risk Identification Program (GRIP) from the United Nations, which signified the start up of GRIP between SHNU and The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In recent years, the frequently-happened natural disasters have brought huge damages and adverse consequences to China’s economic development and people’s lives. The disaster risk analysis and management research team, led by Prof. Wen Jiahong in SHNU College of Tourism, have achieved some significant results and reached cooperation intent with UNDP. The two parties have decided to launch a long-term cooperation in the field of disaster risk assessment and management.
According to the memorandum, the GRIP-CERAM Shanghai will be established; the practice of disaster risk assessment and management in China will be promoted; the South-South cooperation in the field of disaster risk assessment will be enhanced and technical support will be provided to other countries. Also, funds will be raised to support the implementation of the provisions.
GRIP is a platform for inter-agency theme which is funded by many international organizations, institutions and government departments, such as ISDR, UNDP, World Bank, etc. It aims at implementing the UN’s second priority theme of Hyogo Framework for Action -- the identification, assessment and early warning of the risks. And this platform is currently chaired and coordinated by the UNDP.
