SHNU: In the Shanghai 2010 Annual Meeting of Development in Ideological Perspectives, former SHNU President Yang Deguang was awarded for his outstanding deeds on funding the needy students last year. Yin Yicui, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai, bestowed the honorary certificate upon him.
Yang has been engaged in higher education for nearly half a century and has sold a house of his own to fund the needy students with a total sum of ￥3 million. He said he wanted to see over 1,000 students benefit from this fund. “Helping the needy students with their study is a duty as well as a mission, ” Yang said.
