SHNU: On March 4, the famous Israeli writer Nir Baram, accompanied by Shirley, Visa Officer of Israel Consulate in Shanghai, lectured on Xuesihu Overseas Master’s Forum of SHNU. SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei cordially received Nir Baram. Also present were people concerned from the SHNU College of Humanities and Communications and International Exchange Division .
In his lecture entitled “Crimes and Madness of Ordinary People”, Baram talked about the relationship between stories and history, fiction and historical facts, and also the charm of novel writing. In the interacting part, all the teachers and students were involved in the heated discussion. Two international students from the University of Haifa who are now studying in SHNU attended the lecture, too.
Nir Baram was born in 1977 in Jerusalem, Israel, to a family of well-known politicians. Nir's third novel, The Remaker of Dreams, was published by Keter publishing house in 2006. The book appeared on the best-seller lists of Yedioth and Haaretz newspapers, and was also shortlisted for Israel's prestigious Sapir Prize. Nir's fourth novel, Fine People, was published in 2010. It is the first historical novel about the Second World War written by an Israeli author, and is acknowledged by writers and critics to be one of the most important novels published in Hebrew in 2010, when Nir won the Prime Minister Award for Hebrew literature.
