On November 17th, the SHNU research team led by Wang Wenqin, cooperated with her husband Wu Yongrui's research team from China Academy of Sciences and published THP enhances seed protein content and nitrogen-use efficiency in maize at Nature, an internationally-renowned science journal. With ten years of unswerving efforts, the SHNU researchers finally cloned from wild maize the Teosinte High Protein 9 (THP9), a key mutated gene that controls the formation of high protein in maize and effective use of nitrogen, thus doubling the percentage of protein in a corn plant. Actually, the protein content rises from 8 percent to 14 percent in the corn seeds.

The SHNU researcher Wang and her husband Wu Yongrui from China Academy of Sciences worked at the farm fields and computer lab respectively and created dazzling scientific miracles in plant research.

Ten years of hard work paid off: the protein percentage from 8 to 14 in maize marks the persistent strong wills of SHNU researchers to strive for their scientific beliefs and research goals.
