SHNU: The International Symposium on Sorge and Shanghai Intelligence War was held in SHNU on September 15 to commemorate the famous Soviet espionage hero Richard•Sorge (1895-1944) who detected the German attack on the Soviet intelligence 7 months ahead and made great contributions to the victory of the world anti-fascist war during World War II.
Over 60 experts, scholars and members of the descendant Sorge group From China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Australia and other countries attended the conference. They made lectures and had multi-perspective and in-depth discussions on what Sorge did after he left Shanghai. Research materials of different countries about him were also displayed.
After the meeting, the participants visited the activity site of CPC Central Special Agency and Sorge group in Shanghai. The organizers also drew the Shanghai Intelligence War Map from the 1920s to 1940s.
From January, 1930 to November, 1932, Sorge collected information as a German journalist and freelance writer in Shanghai. He was arrested in Tokyo in 1941 and hanged in Japan 3 years later.
The symposium is of great significance to the researches of Shanghai city history and "International Red Intelligence War".
