On 18th March, SHNU held a brief but warm ceremony to appoint Professor Ren Nanqi from the Chinese Academy of Engineering as our university’s distinguished professor. President Zhang Minxuan, Vice President Ke Qinfei, Dean of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, as well as the person in charge of the Science and Technology Division attended the ceremony. Academician Ren Nanqi is a professor and PhD supervisor in Harbin Institute of Technology. At the same time, he is also Director of the State Key Laboratory of Urban Water Resources and Environment and an environmental discipline assessor of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. He made tremendous achievements in the fundamental theory researches of the biological hydrogen production and industrial wastewater disposal and also in the training of the personnel concerned. Academician Ren Nanqi was honored to have been specially appointed by SHNU. He held that creative incentives could motivate discipline development, which could, thus, foster the development of teachers. He also pointed out that academic leaders and dean of a college play important roles in the construction of the discipline and the teaching faculty. He was willing to contribute his wisdom and strength to SHNU. On behalf of the university, President Zhang Minxuan issued the Letter of Appointment to Professor Ren and showed his sincere appreciation for his continual cooperation in scientific research with SHNU. Zhang Minxuan stated that Professor Ren was not only a distinguished scientist, but also an outstanding leader of discipline construction. SHNU hopes that he could help the university to create an interdisciplinary innovation team, and SHNU would give full support in terms of policy, funding and environment to enhance the level of the university’s discipline construction and its scientific research.
