SHNU: On November 23rd, the English Phonetics Conference 2012 and 1st Chinese International TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Symposium on English Phonetics Teaching were held in SHNU. The participants included over 150 scholars home and abroad, such as SHNU President Zhang Minxuan, Director of China English Phonetics Symposium Wang Guizhen, Professor from University of London John Wells, Professor from Radbound University Nijmegen Carlos Gussenhoven, etc.
SHNU President Zhang, using English, delivered the welcome speech to the guests, and hoped that this international symposium could enable the SHNU teachers and students to be interested in the latest development of phonetic study and learn from the scholars their academic attitudes.
The symposium lasted three days, and the last day was devoted to a seminar on English phonetics study and teaching for primary and middle school teachers, which was mainly attended by primary and middle school teachers in Xuhui District.
During the tree-day conference, an agreement on the cooperation of teacher training and future teacher education was signed between Xuhui District Teachers Training Institute and the Foreign Languages College, Shanghai Normal University.
