SHNU: On October.10, International Channel Shanghai (ICS) of Shanghai Television (STV) came to SHNU to interview Steven Weathers and make a feature film of him. As an American teacher working for the SHNU Xie Jin Film and Television Art College, he won the 2012 Shanghai Magnolia Memorial Award, which is rare for foreign teachers from a local university.
During the interview, Steven told the reporter, “The students of Xie Jin Film and Television Art College are very sweet, and I always try my best to help them to feel the charm of the language, the culture and the emerging Media Industry during the process of their English Learning.” Apart from limited knowledge imparting in class, he focuses more on teaching out of class, encouraging the students to learn social intercourse ability, native English and professional skills during communication and practice.
Zhao Bingxiang, Dean of the College, and Prof. Gao Hongming of TV Editing and Directing, said in the interview that Steven could explain to the students the conflicts and differences between Chinese and western culture in a Chinese way of thinking. “His lessons do help those students who are going to study abroad or cooperate with foreigners in this field in the future”, they said. Steven’s students also said that they had benefited a lot from their teacher.
