Zhang Minxuan Gives Speech at the Seminar on Chinese Scholars and Shanghai’s Development

  SHNU: The 8th Seminar on Chinese Scholars and Shanghai’s Development in the 21st Century was held in Shanghai on July 25 and 26.

With the theme of “Talent Structure and Education Development in International Metropolises”, the seminar witnessed participation of scholars and experts from China, the U.S., Britain, Germany, Japan and Singapore. The seminar focused on three topics: “Education: Talent Sources in International Metropolises”, “Talents and Metropolitan Development” and “Construction of Study-oriented City”.

SHNU President Zhang Minxuan was invited to deliver a report entitled Self-Confidence and Self-Communion: The Result of Shanghai PISA 2009 and Development of Basic Education. He summarized the reasons for the excellent scores achieved in year 2009 by Shanghai Students (who competed with 470,000 students aged 15 from 65 countries and regions) in PISA tests (the Program for International Student Assessment).

The serial seminar “Chinese Scholars and Shanghai’s Development in the 21st Century” is sponsored biennially by Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association and Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association. Since 1998, famous experts and scholars from both home and abroad have been invited to the seminar every two years to contribute sound strategies to Shanghai’s sustainable development.
