Recently, the 2011 annual program of finding self-improvement stars amony Chinese college students wound up. Two students from SHNU won thehonor. Gu Chunchun, a graduate of Grade 2009 from College of Fine Arts, was awarded the title 'Self-improvement Star of Chinese College Student'; the first to win such a title in the history of SHNU. Shen Zhao, anundergraduate of Grade 2010 from Business College, and Mou Chenlu, majoring in Sacretorial Studies from Shanghai College for Youth Administrators, were nominated for the title, the fourth time for SHNU students to receive this honor. The program “Self-improvement Star of Chinese College Student” of year 2011 is an important activity officially initiated by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League and All-China Students Federation so as to uphold Chinese traditional virtues, promote social harmony and encourage self-reliance anomg the youths. Gu Chunchun was born in an ordinary rural family in Zhejiang province. He is enthusiastic in charity activities and has donated blood for over ten times since 1998. In 2009, he joined the college student volunteer team of Western Plan and applied to teach in the most faraway village in Yunan province. During his teaching there, he raised over 1500 pieces of clothes and 2000 books for the local students. After his teaching, Gu Chunchun continued to show great care about the local students and managed to solve the problems of drinking water and set up the first local library, fulfilling themission of a responsible SHNU student . Shen Zhao was born to be enthusiastic about environmental protection. He has been an International Youth Green Ambassador of British Council for three years. In 2011, Shen Zhao, along with other 19 peers, participated the theme investigation entitled 'The Influence of Climate Change on Agricultural Development and its Adaptation' held by the British Council.in Ningxia province Mu Chenlu is excellent in academic study and responsible to her work, She participates in all kinds of activitiesand has been awarded the title Outstanding Individual in summer vocation jobsfor the protection of the juveniles in Hongkou District and her own college. SHNU chooses annually 'Stars of SHNU' r to reinforce and further enhance moral education and to encourage students to be positive, optimistic, enduring and self-reliant. .
