SHNU: The 9th SHNU “Ireland Month” was successfully held at Fengxian campus on May 13. The closing ceremony was attended by the Consul General of Ireland in Shanghai Eoghan Duffy, heads of the International Affairs Office, Foreign Languages College and the Irish Literature Workshop in SHNU and representatives of SHNU teachers and students.

A video was played at the beginning of the closing ceremony, reviewing the activities organized in the last one month, followed by student performance of drama, folk songs and recitations of poems. Eoghan Duffy spoke highly of the student performers. “You are both good Irish literature learners and outstanding actors”, he said with sincerity.

It has been 9 years since the “Ireland Month” was launched. Starting on April 13, the activities of “Ireland Month” this year include three themes: the sound, images and beauty of Ireland, covering film appreciation, essay contest, dormitory decoration, folk song appreciation, tap dance learning and drama performance, etc.

In honor of John Keats, the great Irish writer, an important part of these activities is to act out his works, including his plays The Countness of Cathleen and CathleenNi Houlihan as well as his poem When You Are Old, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth.

As a name brand of Foreign Languages College, the “Ireland Month” reflects the rich and colorful life of its students.
