The First “Lifetime Achievement Award for Comparative Literature” to Late SHNU Professor Sun Yingyao

    The “Lifetime Achievement Award for Comparative Literature” was held in Sichuan University on April 11. Nine scholars who have made remarkable contributions to the revival of China’s comparative literature received this great honor, the late SHNU Professor Sun Jingyao included. Entrusted by Prof. Sun’s family, Prof. Liu Yunhua, head of SHNU's discipline of Comparative Literature & World Literature, received this award and made a speech on behalf of Sun's family. 

    Prof. Sun Jingyao, previously in charge of Comparative Literature & World Literature in SHNU College of Humanities and Communication, was one of the "National Outstanding Teachers”. Working jointly with Prof. Zheng Kelu and Prof. Sun Xun, he pioneered the only national key discipline in SHNU in 2007. He also wrote the book of Introduction to Comparative Literature, the first book of this kind in China. Besides, he established “Cowrie”, the first English publication and academic network on comparative literature in China. He served for a long time as Vice President of CCLA and director of Academic Commission, enjoying a high prestige in the field of comparative literature in China. Prof. Sun died of illness on July 10, 2012. 

    After the awarding ceremony, Prof. Liu Yunhua was invited to deliver a speech in the seminar themed “Bigger Academic Platform Needed for New Expansion in Comparative Literature” which was warmly welcomed by the audience.
