SHNU: Dr. Hao Jiangang, a young teacher of SHNU Center for Astrophysics who has taken part in DES International Cooperation Group, recently achieved a great astronomical discovery -- having found 9 dwarf galaxies circling the Milky Way.
This discovery is of great significance to both Astronomy and Physics. Hao’s research results have been published in Astrophys. J of the U.S. and has become a hot issue in the international press circles.
Hao got his master’s degree in 2001 and doctoral degree in 2004. He won the first award of Shanghai Science and Technology (natural science) in 2005 and later joined the DES International Cooperation Group.
The Dark Energy Survey officially began on Aug. 31, 2013. Using the new and powerful Dark Energy Camera, scientists are mapping a large portion of the southern sky in unprecedented detail, seeking answers to the mystery of dark energy. DES is designed to probe the origin of the accelerating universe and help uncover the nature of dark energy by measuring the 14-billion-year history of cosmic expansion with high precision.
