SHNU: The 2013-2014 WSU-SHNU Business Plan Final Competition was held in SHNU on April 29. Dresses up and wearing a decent smile, the competitors gave presentations about their business plans.

Four students from the “First Aid” Team won the first prize and got $5,000 as the reward, “Mr. Koali” team won the second prize of $3,000, and “Shanghai Pacemaker”, the third prize of$2,000. The yearly event is funded $10,000 by one of the board of directors of Weber State University.

In his opening speech, Professor Mao Xuncheng, SHNU President Assistant and Dean of SHNU School of Business and Finance, hoped that all the competitors would learn to seize market opportunities and expand their horizons through this kind of competition. The judge team consisted of 6 foreign and Chinese judges, namely Alex Lawrence, Vice President of WSU, Jeff Steagal, Dean of John B. Goddard School of Business and Economics, Dave Noach, Director of the Hall global Entrepreneurship Program, Mao Xuncheng, Huang Hong, Chair of Financial Management Program and Yang Baohua, Chair of Insurance Program.

Alex Lawrence hosted the award ceremony and issued certificates of achievement to each of the 70 students from 15 teams who entered the final competition. He said the real winners are not only those who received awards but also those who were persistent in their dreams and made them come true.

Some students said they really enjoyed the whole process from preparation to presentation, in which they tasted the hardship and fun in starting a business. What’s more, they learned a lot from Prof. Kent Millington, the famous entrepreneur in the week-long training.

Over 600 students in 150 teams in the SHNU School of Business and Finance took part in the competition.
