SHNU: As one of the series activities of 2014 Xuesihu Overseas Masters’ Forum, Graham Earnshaw, founder of Earnshaw Books, was invited on April 16th to speak at SHNU Fengxian Library Hall with the theme of New Discovery. It was sponsored by SHNU College of Foreign Languages and British Council.
Graham could speak fluent Chinese Putonghua, Shanghai dialect and Guangdong dialect. As a well-known expert of Chinese affairs, he acts as not only a businessman, but also a composer and a musician. He also wrote many works to introduce China to the world. He shared his experience of hiking from Shanghai to China’s western regions. He even sang songs in rhythms created on his own to express his passion for Chinese culture.
This talk enabled students to understand the changes and progress of Chinese development from the perspective of a foreigner, and how glamorous Chinese culture has been to the eyes of the rest of the world.
