Recently，the heat-tolerant vegetables of SHNU have attracted attention of news media of Shanghai. Wenhui Daily, Jiefang Daily and Shanghai Science and Technology reported the research results of SHNU Development Center of Plant Germplasm Resources. There is even government staff from some district government who called to require about the promotion of the equipments for planting these vegetables.
Walking into the glasshouse of the Development Center of Plant Germplasm Resources, one is sure to be amazed by the luxuriant lettuce in the pipe, rows of Chinese wolfberries on the wall, a whole tree of red tomatoes and some other green vegetables growing in water. “Our expert team is seeking a more suitable way of balcony farming in urban areas of Shanghai and have made certain progress,” said Wang Quanhua, a professor from College of Environmental Sciences of SHNU.
“We also boast of special strengths of research in scented-rice breeding and heatproof spinach throughout the country,” the president of SHNU Zhang Minxuan said proudly to the reporter.
An official from Shanghai Municipal Education Commission pointed out that it’s important for academic researches to meet the market demands and lay emphasis on the commercialization of research achievement. In this way more people could enjoy the fruits of modern technology.
