SHNU: On March 16th, Wang Chao, SHNU young teacher of College of Music came up the third at the first Tevlin International Choir Conducting Contest held at the hall of The Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The champion and runner-up are Makarova and Karasevich from Russia. Named after the famous Russian conductor Boris Tevlin and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the contest involved 51 participants from various countries. 8 candidates entered the third round of the final. The judges included Shchedrin, Kontorovich, and Soloviev from Russia, two Asian conductors Cao Tongyi and Gulmira, and three European conductors Mishkinis, Morales and Pavlovitch. As the only Asian conductor who won the award, SHNU teacher Wang Chao received thunderous applause for his relaxed and friendly poise. The chorus group even closed their music scores for clapping hands for Wang. The Russian State Television interviewed him, which would be shown at Channel 4 on March 18th local time. |
