Nobel Prize Winner Ian Allison Lectures in SHNU

SHNU: On November 15, Ian Allison, Nobel Peace Prize winner and principal author of UN IPCC appraisal report, was invited to SHNU and made an academic report at the International Scholars Forum of SHNU. The university Party Secretary Lu Jianfei received Ian Allison at Foreign Guests House of SHNU and took photos with him.

In his report entitled “Polar Regions and Climate Change: What is happening and what are the implication. Prof. Allison introduced the latest achievements on Antarctic and Arctic study with first-hand materials. He also, with facts and research results, explained whether weather is changing, how it is changing and the implication of possible changes. The latest scientific findings from the fifth IPCC appraisal analysis were also involved in his report.

The report attracted a variety of audience, including professors and doctoral graduates in the fields of earth sciences, environmental sciences, pedagogy, philosophy and business management from SHNU and Shanghai University of Engineering Science, as well as experts and scholars from World-Wide Fund for Nature, Shanghai Institute of Geography, environment friendly enterprises and government departments, etc. 

Professor Ian Allison, a scientist with world reputation, has engaged himself in the study of Antarctic snow ice and sea ice for more than 40 years. He has headed or participated in South Pole investigation for 25 times and published hundreds of scientific papers. In recent years, Prof. Allison has been frequently awarded prizes by various international associations, such as the Scientific Ph. D. in 2009, Future Fair Award at Copenhagen in 2010 and SCAR Medal in 2012, etc.
