SHNU: Accompanied by the Director-General of Hanban Xu Lin, SHNU President Zhang Minxuan, and Thabo Fako, President of the University of Botswana (UB), State Councilor Liu Yandong paid a visit to the Confucius Institute (CI) in UB on December 2.
This is the first CI Liu has ever visited, where she received a warm welcome from the teachers and students of UB.
With interest, Liu watched the classroom teaching of CI and talked with some students after class. She gave Chinese dictionaries to the students and encouraged them to study hard. Later Liu visited the office and reading room of CI.
At the welcome ceremony organized by the Confucius Institute, the President of UB reviewed the development of CI from 2007 till now. He also introduced the development plan the institute has made in for the future five years.
Councilor Liu said she was deeply impressed by the friendly atmosphere on the UB campus. She said Chinese government would give CI 48 sets of equipment to furnish its language lab and invite 100 middle school or university students of Botswana to attend the Chinese language summer camp.
Students of CI presented splendid performance to the guests, including songs, poet recitation, gourd pipe playing, etc.
