SHNU: At the invitation of SHNU College of Fine Arts, Professor Takashi Akiyama from Tama Art University, Japan, gave a lecture entitled “Illustration Art and Design” in the university on November 21. The lecture belongs to the serial activities of the 2011 SHNU International Arts Festival.
The lecture, which is aimed to promote Sino-Japanese cultural exchange, attracted nearly 200 teachers and students. It demonstrated the unique understanding of graphic design by famous Japanese designers. Starting from the design language, Prof. Takashi Akiyama analyzed in a simple way the profound significance of native culture, language and character, and historical migration in designing posters and illustrations.
Prof. Takashi Akiyama made a further discussion with the audience on topics like the protection of cultural and historical heritage, designers’ responsibility and mission, etc. Meanwhile, he encouraged SHNU students to pay attention to social issues and ecological protection so that as responsible designers they can make contributions to the society.
Being a world-renowned illustrator, Prof. Takashi Akiyama has very rich creation experiences. He has won a lot of international awards including a gold medal in International Poster Biennale in Warsaw and Tunisian Ambassador Award for African Natural Protection Poster. Presently, he is working as an international censor for poster exhibition held in countries like China, Mexico, and Italy.
