SHNU: As one of the main attractions of the 2011 SHNU International Art Festival, the Chamber Orchestra of Brigham Young University (BYU) and Wan Fang Youth Symphony Orchestra (YSO) of SHNU had a joint performance on the evening of May 9.
SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei met with 130 odd players before the performance and wished it a complete success. Over 600 audiences watched the splendid performance.
The music played by BYU Chamber Orchestra included the Gioacchino Rossini’s Ouverture “Semiramide”, Leonard Bernstein’s three pieces of dance music of On The Town, and Kodaly’s Dances of Galanta. In the second half, YSO played Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor. The players from both universities also played one more musical piece to satisfy the enthusiastic audience. The heated atmosphere as ignited by the wonderful performance fully interpreted that music is a universal language.
After the performance, Stephen Jones, Dean of BYU College of Fine Arts and Communications , exchanged gifts with SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei and talked about further cooperation between the two universities.
BYU is the biggest private university in the U.S. and has an enrollment of 30,000 students from 120 odd countries in the world. The Dance Company of Brigham Young University once performed in SHNU on May 13 last year.
